Let's share your ideas for desktop learning spaces. In free-flow wiki style, I'm not going to put any restrictions on the organization of this wiki. Rather than simply thinking about your project, consider how it might fit into the larger idea of desktop learning spaces.
You have two options for this assignment:

Last February, I attended a professional development seminar let by a professor from Arizona State (I could not find the paperwork with his name, so I cannot give him credit...my apologies!). He introduced a discussion guide called "What do you notice?" He read Piggybook by Anthony Browne, and we were to write down four things: one way a character changed, something that challenged you as a reader, something you expected, and something that was missing from the story. I loved the book and thought it was something I could use as a mini-lesson with my 7th and 8th graders, even though it is a picture book. Actually, I think this could be used for all grades. I had fun turning it into a PowerPoint Sidekick. I took pictures of the book with my camera, cropped them, then used the sound recorder on my laptop to record myself reading the book. At the end, I created an activity about gender rolls.

The discussion questions can be used with any picture book; I chose I will never not ever eat a tomato by Lauren Child. For this one, I will have students read the book on their own, then complete the two activities. This book and the activities are more suited to younger students, second, third or fourth graders. It could be used as a language arts/health lesson.
